[VIDEO] Himes Speaks on House Floor About Tragedy in Newtown

Congressman: Guns "were designed with the explicit purpose of killing as many people as rapidly as possible."

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., 4th District, spoke on the House floor Monday about the attacks at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

"I looked at the photographs of the parents at those funerals and tried to imagine the bottomless grief, the anger, the questions they must have, and of course, that is impossible," he said. "At the very front of those questions is the question of why, something we will all struggle with individually..."

"We are entrusted by our constituents with one thing, which is to ensure that this does not happen again."

A nice speech by a Liberal but, as I have said, the devil is in the details. Lets all remember criminals who commit crimes such as murder do not obey laws. Connecticut already has a law outlawing magazines with a capaciy of more then 10 rounds for these weapons. This guy didn't obey that law when he committed murder. I agree that new purchases of assault weapons need to be stopped but I also see the need for our politicians to get involved in the underlying reasons for the violence such as violent video games and more powers to hold people in institutions that are identified as mentally ill and are a danger to society. The privacy laws in the mental health field are insane.
