Say Yes to the Dress!

Learn how you can help make this prom season extra special for some local young ladies.

You wouldn’t know it by looking outside today but prom season is right around the corner and one of our partner agencies is taking on the task of helping some special young ladies in the community find a fabulous dress for the big dance, free of charge.

On Saturday April 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Darien-based Person-to-Person and Norwalk-based CCA: a program of P2P are once again hosting a fabulous event which will give girls from low to moderate income families the chance to pick out a fantastic prom dress.

Dresses in a variety of styles, sizes and colors are donated and made available, totally free, to teens from Norwalk, Westport, Wilton and Weston. Volunteers and staff will be transforming the office space at 76 South Main Street in Norwalk into a fabulous “boutique” where girls can come browse and try on the dresses. At last year’s event about 40 dresses were handed out to area teens.

There is no appointment or interview necessary. There is a limit of one dress per teen and the dresses are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Organizers say they hope even more girls in the community planning to go the prom swing by this fun event this year. Girls will get to choose their dress from a selection of over 100 different dresses!

Janet King, Director of Volunteers for P2P, says volunteers are needed to help sort through the donated dresses, accessories and shoes and to help on the day of the event. If you’re interested in lending a hand, contact Janet directly.

The event is sponsored in part by the Wilton Women’s League. If you’d like to donate a gently used dress or two, previously owned shoes and evening bags in excellent condition there is still time. Donations will be accepted through Thursday April 4 at the following locations:
