Museums. Love. Newtown.

On the 14th of every month we at VolunteerSquare.com want to acknowledge individuals or groups giving back to the community in positive and meaningful ways as a small gesture to keep the spirit of Sandy Hook alive.
This month, we are honoring a consortium of museums from around Connecticut, including VolunteerSquare.com partner agency Norwalk-based Stepping Stones Museum for Children.

Over the past few months, the group did something unprecedented to provide engaging museum experiences for the children of Newtown. The program is called “Museums.Love.Newtown – Discovery Days for Children.”

The goals was simple - to provide exciting activities to ensure that children in the community never lose their love of learning and to offer engaging opportunities where families can enjoy learning together. Between Sunday, March 10 and Saturday, May 4, each participating children’s museum presented one of its most popular programs to the people of Newtown. The C.H. Booth Library in Newtown hosted this heartwarming initiative and Newtown’s emerging EverWonder Children’s Museum provided logistical support.

"The EverWonder Board of Directors is incredibly appreciative to these wonderful museums for coming together to bring positive and enjoyable experiences to the children of Newtown,” said Kristin Chiriatti, President and Executive Director of EverWonder Children’s Museum. “It has been heart-warming to see these separate institutions unite for the Museums.Love.Newtown project and we are proud to be a part of it."

Programs already held included printmaking, live animal experiences, geology, art and more. The program schedule for this initiative is still evolving. Due to a fantastic response from the community and an ongoing commitment from the participating children's museums, more programming may be added at a later date.  As new programs are added, schedule and registration information will be posted at http://www.everwondermuseum.com/museums.html.

Participating museums include:
