Spring into Volunteering

It may not feel like it lately but Spring has finally arrived here in Fairfield County. At VolunteerSquare one of the things we love best about this season is a fresh crop of volunteer opportunities – many of them outdoors. Shake off those winter blues and get out and enjoy the start of a new season by helping your community!

If your time is limited to a particular week, see if you can find one-day opportunities. For example, the Stamford Museum & Nature Center is looking for help with its “Spring on the Farm” Festival in May. Domus in Stamford is looking for volunteers to work outdoors with teens one Saturday a month. You could always schedule a last-minute food rescue with Community Plates.

The ideal time to volunteer during spring for many is spring break. Students are home from college or high school and work schedules are often more relaxed as managers and employees both take time off but don’t wait to plan your volunteer project. You could organize a collection for clients at Family & Children’s Agency in Norwalk or sign up for a shift or two at the Person-to-Person clothing center. You can always speak to your career center as a student, or begin using the tips we’ve laid out to start exploring which local agencies would be a good fit for you.

The point is, there are tons of ways you can get involved. Plus, agencies know everyone has busy lives to schedule around volunteering and they’ll work with you to find a schedule that works for you. In the meantime, check out VolunteerSquare.com to get started and sign up for our free, custom e-alerts so we can keep you posted on the latest volunteer opportunities that matter to you. Check us out on Facebook & Twitter, too!
