90 DHS Students Named AP Scholars

Last year's valedictorian, Andrew Gagne, had the remarkable distinction of receiving a 5 on all 10 of the exams he completed.

A total of ninety students from have been named AP Scholars this year, school officials announced Tuesday, a designation awarded by the College Board in recognition of achievement on its Advanced Placement exams.

The exams — typically taken as the culimination of AP courses — are administered to over 1.8 million students each spring. The AP program offers high schoolers access to college-level classes, and many institutions of higher learning award credit for successful test performances.

This year's awards reflect AP exams taken through May 2010. Only about 18 percent of test-takers are given the distinction of AP Scholar.

Two DHS students — Andrew Gagne and Brandon Wong — won the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average score of 4 or higher (out of 5) on all exams taken and scores of 4 or higher on at least eight tests. Gagne, , had the remarkable distinction of receiving a 5 on all 10 of the exams he completed.

33 DHS students earned the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by receiving an average of 3.5 on all exams and scores of 3 or higher on at least five tests: Kelly Brophy, Alexandra Budd, Elizabeth Calby, Douglas Cavers, Madeline Coburn, Evan Cunningham, Gabriella D’Agosto, Andrew Glick, Daniel Glockler, Kilbourn Gordon, William Griffiths, Jessica Gunzel, Kelsey Harrison, Christian Holmes, William Juan, Stephanie Ko, Sebastian Kopp, Hannah Lyons, Kaitlin Maier, Mia Martin, Sarah McGowan, Dana McLachlin, Elizabeth Miller, Kelsey Ott, David Phipps, Emily Pik, Suneil Raghvan, Louis Rawden, Willem Sandberg, Aaron Tas, Nicholas Trautmann, Caroline Vilter, and Timothy Westcott.

11 DHS students earned the AP Scholar with Honor Award by receiving an average score of 3.25 on all exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on at least four tests: Edward Brokaw, Byron Callahan, Kathleen Cameron, Emily Duwan, Taylor Holcomb, Meredith Jordan, Meredith Joyce, Rachel Kanigan, Frank Lombardi, Grant Scott, and Arline Strother.

44 DHS students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by receiving scores of 3 or higher on at least three tests: Nicasio Arroyo, Adrianna Baker, Tania Bello, Christopher Black, Patricia Cadareanu, Daniel Campbell, Alexandra Crouse, Kelsey Davis, Wesley Dean, Emily Evans, William Fitzmaurice, Michael Foresta, Ann Fucigna, Madeleine Gill, Charles Galvin, Nicole Granath, Connor Gregory, Drew Hathaway, Thomas Hyde, Andrew Kristof, Charles Lacy, Li-Hua Lin, Katharine Macomber, Dylan Magida, Darius Majd, Andrew Mauboussin, John McCauley, Taiki Miki, Katherine Orem, Remy Peace, Katherine Rohn, Charlotte Schaffer, William Schreyer, Robert Shindler, Abigail Sickinger, Andrea Smelser, Sarah Q.
