“Conscience” Talk by Author Louisa Thomas at Saint Luke’s Discovery Hour

Saint Luke’s Parish invites the public to a presentation, “Conscience: Two Soldiers, Two Pacifists, One Family” by the author Louisa Thomas on Sunday, September 16, at 9am.

Thomas has written a book about the true story of the four Thomas brothers, young men in Britain who experienced World War I very differently: two military men, one conscientious objector and one civil rights advocate. Each of the brothers believed he was following his conscience. The talk will explore the meaning of conscience -- a word we don’t hear much now.

Guest speaker Louisa Thomas is a contributor to Grantland, and her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Newsweek, Vogue, the Paris Review Daily, Bloomberg/Businessweek, and other places. She was formerly on the editorial staff of the New Yorker and a contributing editor at Newsweek. She lives in Berlin and New York. She is at work on her second book, about Louisa Catherine Adams, the wife of John Quincy Adams.
