DARIEN LIBRARY'S FALL BOOK DISCUSSION SERIES CONCLUDES WITH "THE PASSAGE"

Darien Library's Fall Book Discussion Series, "The Butterfly Effect: Small Decisions, Epic Impacts," will conclude on Tuesday, November 16 at 7 p.m. The theme of the series is "The Butterfly Effect: Small Decisions, Epic Impacts." Taking the idea that one butterfly can cause a ripple effect on subsequent historical events (for example, the flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil can lead to a tornado in Texas), the series will focus on stories where singular and seemingly small decisions change the course of lives forever. Library staff members will lead the discussions.

The discussion book on November 16 will be The Passage by Justin Cronin.

Aptly selected as the concluding book of "The Butterfly Effect," The Passage is an apocalyptic epic. A security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment.

"A literary richness that rivals Stephen King's The Stand. – Time

"Magnificently unnerving… A The Stand- meets-The Road journey." – Entertainment Weekly, A-

"The monsters in this compulsive nail-biter are the scariest in fiction since Stephen King's vampires in Salem's Lot…This exceptional thriller should be one of the most popular novels this year and will draw in readers everywhere." – Library Journal, starred review

The Passage, the first in a planned trilogy from the author, is the fourth and final book of the Library's Fall Book Discussion Series. Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann, and Room by Emma Donoghue were discussed earlier in the series.

The Library has copies of the books available for patrons to borrow, but prior reading of the books is not necessary to attend the discussions.
