Dave Marcus - author of ACCEPTANCE

The DHSPA, the DHS Guidance Department and Barrett Bookstore are pleased to announce that Dave Marcus, author of "Acceptance: A Legendary Guidance Counselor Helps Seven Kids Find the Right College – and Find Themselves" and leading journalist on the college admissions process, will speak at Darien High School on Tuesday, December 7th at 7:30pm in the DHS Auditorium.



Dave Marcus, a graduate of Brown University and former fellow at Harvard, has been a journalist, high school teacher and visiting professor at several colleges.  Dave has been a staff reporter at U.S. News & World Report magazine and has also written for Vanity Fair magazine, Newsweek and the New York Times.  As a foreign correspondent, he shared the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. Dave Marcus has written two highly-praised nonfiction books.  What it Takes to Pull Me Through is about struggling teenagers and his most recent book, Acceptance, is a true story about seven kids applying to college. 

This program will give families an inside look at trends in college admissions, information about selecting classes, choosing colleges, crafting top-quality applications and seeking financial aid.  As he presents an overview of factors that play into the college application evaluation, Dave Marcus' goal is to inspire students to make the most of high school and to find the college that is the best fit rather than the best brand. Students and parents are encouraged to attend.  Q & A to follow the program.  Dave Marcus' books will be on sale at the event.
