Getting Publicity Through Spectacular Events

Special events are a tool that many communications professionals use successfully to generate publicity for products and services. Jeff Blumenfeld has conceived such spectacles as a ski deck in front of the Waldorf-Astoria, a kayak marathon around Manhattan Island and the world's tallest wheelie – a press stunt on the observation deck of the Empire State Building. As president of Blumenfeld and Associates Inc., a PR and special events firm in Darien, Conn., Blumenfeld has created and executed special events for clients such as 3M, DuPont, Coleman, Orvis and Sikorsky. He has staged events that have attracted thousands of spectators and generated millions of media impressions. His clients have been featured in Business Week, CBS, CNBC, NBC, the Wall Street Journal and other national consumer and vertical media.

A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Blumenfeld publishes the Expedition News newsletter and is the author of a book on adventure marketing titled You Want to Go Where? How to Get Someone to Pay for the Trip of Your Dreams.
