Fairfield Warde Athletics Director Chosen as Darien Athletic Director

Christopher Manfredona, sports director for Fairfield Warde High School, has been chosen as the next physical athletic director for  Darien Public Schools,

Darien Public Schools has hired Christopher Manfredona for the post.

The Darien Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools, Stephen V. Falcone, are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Christopher Manfredonia as Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics for the Darien Public Schools. 


Mr. Manfredonia will assume his responsibilities in October, 2013.  He will take on the role currently held by Mr. Michael Sullivan, who will serve as Assistant Principal of Darien High School, beginning on September 10, 2013.  Mr. John Keleher, retired Director of Physical Education, Health, and Athletics for the Darien Public Schools, will serve as Interim Director until Mr. Manfredonia assumes this assignment.

Christopher Manfredonia has been an educator for sixteen years, serving most recently for seven years as Director of Athletics at Fairfield Warde High School in Fairfield, Connecticut.  In that role, Mr. Manfredonia was responsible for overseeing 36 athletic teams and approximately 110 certified coaches.

 He was involved in all aspects of the school’s interscholastic athletic program operations, including the recruitment and evaluation of coaches, leadership of student-athlete support programs, oversight of the budget process, compliance with league and State governing regulations, event management, and the development of collaborative and supportive relationships with parents and booster organizations.  Mr. Manfredonia is described as a “student-centered” leader who has “excellent rapport with coaches, students, and parents.”  

Mr. Manfredonia began his teaching career in 1997 where he taught physical education and health at Bedford Middle School in Westport, Connecticut.  In 2002, he was appointed Department Chair of the Health and Physical Education Department at Staples High School, also in Westport.  In this role, he provided oversight of the development and implementation of curriculum and professional development, and managed the supervision and evaluation of professional and support staff.  During his tenure in Westport, Mr. Manfredonia coached girls’ basketball.

Mr. Manfredonia earned his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations (with a minor in Psychology) from Mount Saint Mary College. He received a Master of Science in School Health as well as a Sixth Year Degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University.

Professionally, Mr. Manfredonia has been active in the Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors where he currently serves as representative of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.  He also serves as Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Chairperson for Girls Tennis.   

Mr. Manfredonia resides with his family in Sandy Hook, Connecticut.
