Himes, Ox Ridge Kids to Make Valentines for Grizzled Vets

"So what did you do in school today, Johnny?" may have a more interesting answer on Monday in Darien.

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes is coming to Darien on Monday to visit with students to discuss national policy.

No, that's not right -- the congressman is visiting Ox Ridge Elementary School, where the discussion will be more about which crayon to use on Valentine's Day cards that the students and Himes will be making for veterans.

The visit is part of Himes' "fifth annual 'Valentines for Vets' program. He will be joined by State Senator and U.S. Air Force Veteran Carlo Leone, who will share stories about his experience as a service member with the children.

"This year’s valentines will be taken to the local VA [Veterans Administration] hospital [in West Hartford], Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport, and other service organizations."
