Do you have enough passion for your profession?

"I am older now, but my love and passion for the game is still the same."  It wasn't hard for SGC to notice that Rafael Nadal, the 2013 Men's Singles winner of the U.S. Open, was often quoted during the tournament about his deep, unrelenting passion for his tennis career. To be at the top of his game and come back from a serious knee injury, he had to be thoroughly dedicated in his mental and physical recovery and preparation. The man knows a lot about blood, sweat, and tears. We found his commitment to be very inspiring. Yes, he has some funny undie-picking tendencies on the court, but he was laser-focused and super gracious every match he won. What a great role model for all of us (minus the undies part). If we all loved what we do as much as he does, we'd be accomplishing all sorts of great things. For him to reach so high, he's had to take some big losses. The big wins are so much sweeter when we know what big losses feel like. In business, his passion can translate into taking a bit of a risk: pitching a new client, reaching out to an old contact you let fall by the wayside, apologizing for making a mistake in the office and offering to fix it. We are only human, including the great Rafa, and we won't always be successful. But we have a gift if we have passion for what we do. Passion can get you over a slump and keep you focused on reaching for the stars.
