Board of Ed Endorses 30-ft. Lights for Football

The Board of Education unanimously endorsed a proposal Tuesday to ask the Darien Planning & Zoning Commission to approve 30-foot-high temporary lights for five years, both for high school team practice and for the Darien Junior Football League.

Some residents living near the high school and the Hollahan fields adjacent to Town Hall have objected to higher lights. The Darien Planning & Zoning Commission has granted annual approvals for temporary lighting 20 feet high and more recently 30 feet high.

Various measures have been taken to reduce the light that falls on residential neighbors to the Darien High School and Town Hall sports fields for football practice extending into the early evening in the fall.
