Darien Boys Lacrosse Rolls Over Bridgeport Central

Blue Wave gets balanced scoring in 17-2 rout of the Hilltoppers

The Darien high school boys'  lacrosse team remained undefeated with a 17-2 drubbing of Bridgeport Central on Tuesday.

The Blue Wave (3-0) featured a balanced attack with 12 different players scoring. Sophomore attackman Case Matheis had three goals and two assists, while Alden Frelinghuysen, Henry West, Alex Brown and Graham Maybell each scored twice.

The other goals were recorded by Bryan Annecchino, George Gregory, Brendan Hathaway, Scotty Waters, Robbie Winter, Ben Preston and Brian Gleason.

On Friday, Darien traveled to Albany and beat Niskayuna, the New York state finalists from last season,  9-2,  at Union College.

Andrew West recorded 15 saves for Darien, which shut down the hosts behind a stifling defense, then pulled away with five goals in the fourth quarter.

Matheis led the way offensively with three goals and two assists, and Gleason contributed two goals and an assist.

On Saturday, the team—minus the few juniors taking the ACT test—attended a college lacrosse tripleheader at  Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This was the first official event at the new home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets. 

Darien is back in action Thursday at McMahon at 7:15 p.m.
