Darien Field Hockey Advances To Class M Quarterfinals
The Blue Wave will take on No. 8 Guilford after blanking No. 17 Pomperaug on Monday.
In action for the first time since losing to Staples in the FCIAC semifinals, the Darien field hockey team blanked No. 17 seed Pomperaug 5-0 Friday in the first round of the Class M state tournament.
The top-seeded Blue Wave improved to 17-1 and will host No. 8 Guilford in the quarterfinals on Monday. The Indians advanced with a 6-0 victory over East Lyme.
Darien is seeking its fifth consecutive state championship, having lost only one game since 2007.

The 1-0 defeat to Staples snapped the Blue Wave's 93-game unbeaten streak, the third-longest in high school field hockey history.
