Darien's Rob Crane, a member of the United States' sailing team, has qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London after competing in the World Championships in Perth, Australia on Saturday.
Crane finished 14th overall in a 147-boat fleet in the laser competition. He began the day 33rd but finished first and second in his final two races to move up.

"It’s unbelievable,” Crane told U.S. Sailing. “I’m thrilled to have a day like that in arguably the hardest fleet in the world.
Before racing started, Crane knew that he had to sail two really good races.

“I needed a little luck in addition to that and I went out there and tried to focus on the racing and figured out everything I could about the racing,” he added. “I just went for it. I went out and got a shift at the mark and was leading at the mark and didn’t look back."

Theboys hockey team renews its always intense rivalry with New Canaan on Monday.
Game time is set for 4 p.m. at the Darien Ice Rink.
Darien enters the game with a 2-0 record, having suffered a 6-5 overtime loss to West Haven on Saturday, a game in which the Blue Wave held a 3-0 lead in the first minute of the second period.
New Canaan is 0-1, falling to Notre Dame of West Haven in its season opener.
After going 24-1 last season, the Rams could be facing a transitional year as they lost 18 players via graduation or transfers to private schools.

The St. Joseph girls basketball team remained undefeated under new coach Chris Lindwall as the Cadets defeated Darien 50-35 on Friday night.
Nancy Stablein recorded 21 points and nine rebounds for the Cadets, who improved to 4-0.
Jenn Vasquez added eight points for St. Joseph, which pulled away from a close game by outscoring the Blue Wave 17-8 over the final eight minutes.
Meg Marren had 16 points and 14 rebounds for Darien (2-1) while Kate Bushell added 14 for the Blue Wave.

Ellie Bennett had four goals for the second straight game as the Darien girls hockey defeated Fairfield 7-3 Friday night at the Wonderland of Ice.
Sammy Nielsen, Galen Rohn and Sage Thacher each scored one goal for the Blue Wave, who improve to 2-0.
Sara Shaker recorded three assist and freshman Izzy Scribano made 16 saves for Darien.
Fairfield dropped to 1-2.
