The hockey exhibition game is hosted by Darien native Ryan Shannon, who is currently a free agent after spending the previous three seasons with the Ottawa Senators.

The game raises money for the Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation, which supports individuals with spinal injury and disease.

Little League: Darien American and National each posted wins Sunday in the District One 12-year-old Little League tournament.

American, which is atop pool B, improved to 3-0 in round robin play with a 6-3 victory over Weston. National (1-2) defeated Stamford Federal 13-3 for its first win.

National is back in action in Tuesday against Ridgefield National at Wilton's Bill Terry Field (5:30).

American is off until Thursday, when it faces Norwalk at McGuane Field at 5:45 p.m.

Football: The Darien football team will participate in the third annual Grip It & Rip It Passing Tournament, which is being hosted by New Canaan on Saturday.

As of June 30, 24 teams had committed, including a number from the FCIAC -- Bridgeport Central, Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Staples and Fairfield Warde.

Other schools include Masuk, which ended New Canaan's three-year state title title reign and features Casey Cochran, the top quarterback in the state; Cheshire, Bloomfield, Brookfield, Newtown and Weston.

Grip It & Rip It is designed to provide each team a minimum of four games in a competitive, non-contact environment.  Last year all the teams that made it to semifinals advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament - Darien, Masuk, New Canaan and Trumbull.

Each team is guaranteed four games, not including playoffs. Robin robin play runs 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Following a lunch break, playoffs begin at 1 p.m.

Trumbull defeated New Canaan in last year's final.
