Swimming and diving: Jake Bowtell, 15, a sophomore at Darien High School, was one of six athletes from Connecticut to be named to the 2010-2011 NISCA/One Meter Diving All-American squad last week.

The list also includes senior Connor Brisson, Greenwich; freshman Sean Burston, Stamford; junior Peter Cyr, Hamden; senior William Conte, Branford; and senior Stephen Ettienne, Sacred Heart.

During the 2011 season, Bowtell earned three All-American qualifying scores. He finished fourth at the state open, third in the FCIACs, and fourth in the CIAC Class M competition.

Baseball: Darien's Dan Pidgeon, Sam Gillespie, Bryan Previtte and Andrew Hurn were named to the all-FCIAC team.

Rings End 7, Rotary Club 2: Rings End advanced to the championship game of the National League on Sunday with a 7-2 victory over Rotary Club, which had been undefeated in pool play.

After each team scored in the first, Will Culliton and Ryan Niederreither opened the singles with singles for Rings and scored on Richard Brereton's hit. Niederreither was able to come home when Brereton allowed himself to be caught in a rundown.

Rings End starter Nathaniel Pucci settled down, allowing no hits over the next three innings. Eliot Doll's two-run hit made it 6-1 in the fifth. Pucci allowed one run and four hits before reaching his pitch limit.

Chris Drake's RBI single pulled Rotary Club within 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth before Pucci delivered in the final run in the top of the sixth.

Rotary Club loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth on three walks, but the game ended on a caught stealing at home.

VFW Post 4, Dolcetti Inc. 0: Jakes Geddes and Charlie Sealy combined on a four-hitter as VFW Post 6933 blanked Dolcetti Inc. 4-0 to advance to the American League championship game.Geddes and Sealy struck out 10 and walked just three.

VFW grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Brendan Bumgardner's RBI single and Thomas Sulger's run-scoring single. In the third, Bumgardner singled again and scored on Sulger's triple to make it 3-0.

In the bottom of the third, Geddes gave way to Sealy, who got the final out of the inning. VFW scored its final in the fifth on Sulger's two-out single, his third RBI of the game.

Dolcetti's starter Gianni Filippone allowed three runs and seven hits over four innings. He also had a pair of hits at the plate. Sulger, Ball and Bumgardner each had two hits each for VFW.

Lawrence Funeral Home 3, Darien Police 1: Andrew Winsch allowed just three hits over five innings and snapped a tie with a two-run homer as Lawrence Funeral Home defeated Darien Police 3-1 in majors division quarterfinal game.

Darien Police grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third when Nick Karlik tripled and scored on Jack Farren's infield single.

Lawrence answered in the bottom half as Riley Marsh walked, stole second and third and scored on Spencer Hillman's RBI single. Winsch's homer made it 3-1 in the fourth.

Jack Campbell tossed a complete-game four-hitter for Darien Police, which left the bases loaded in the sixth.

Darien Police 22, St Thomas More 19 (7): The Darien Police tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, then erupted for 10 runs in the top of the seventh before holding on to the victory.

Jack Farren, Jordan Kuhlman and Chris Bilby each drove in three runs for Darien Police.

Emmitt Sheehan went 5-for-5 for St. Thomas More with six RBI and a homer.
