• Cross country: Darien's bid to unseat Danbury as FCIAC boys cross country champions fell just short Monday at New Canaan's Waveny Park.

Staples junior Henry Wynne finished ahead of Fairfield Warde senior Harry Warnick to win the individual title. Wynne posted a time of 15:37 in the 3.1-mile race, just two seconds better than Warnick, who also was the runner-up last year.

Danbury's duo of senior Tom Moore (16:17) and junior Nick Carlsen (16:18) finished third and fourth. Overall, Danbury, which has claimed 10 of the last 11 FCIAC crowns, finished with 54 points.

Completing the top five was McMahon senior Chris Madaffari (16:20). Darien's top runners were Charlie Baird (16:31) and Mike Johnson (16:46), who were sixth and seventh.

Greenwich, which featured individual champion Abigail Markowitz, finished second with 80 points. Last year's champion Wilton was third with 97 points.

Markowitz covered the 2.4-mile girls course in 14:55, defeating Westhill's Nicole Ambrosecchio by five seconds.
