UPDATES

• Field hockey: The Darien field hockey team begins its quest for a fifth consecutive state championship on Monday when the Blue Wave hosts Staples.

But if there were ever such a thing as a rebuilding season in Darien, this might be it, as coach Mo Minicus saw 13 seniors — including 10 starters — graduate from last year's 22-0-0 team.

It was the third consecutive undefeated season for those seniors, who posted a 65-0-1 record since the beginning of the 2008 campaign. Overall, Darien takes a 76-game unbeaten streak into this year.

The loss of those players may be difficult for Darien to overcome, but it would be unwise to ever write off the Blue Wave. Minicus will be looking to co-captains Galen Rohn and Lilly Cassidy to be the team's leaders in this year's campaign.
