Darien Softball Snaps Out Of Batting Slump

The Blue Wave drubs McMahon, 13-0, for its 11th win of season.

The Darien High School softball team broke out of its batting slump in a big way Thursday.

Nicole Buch, Courtney Bell, Kelly Fahey, and Michelle Picciro each drove in two runs, as the Blue Wave blanked McMahon, 13-0, in a game called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Sophomore pitcher Jessica DeMaio tossed a two-hitter for Darien (11-2), which was coming off back-to-back shutout losses to Ridgefield and St. Joseph after a program-best 10-0 start.

For McMahon (1-13), the game represented an unfortunate turnaround from the day before, when it notched its first victory of the season, 13-1, over Bassick.
