32nd Annual Darien Road Race

The 32nd Annual Darien Road Race will take place this Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. at Pear Tree Point Beach. The race route, which stretches along scenic waterfront roads, includes two wheel measured events, a 10-kilometer (6.2 miles), and a 1.5 mile fun run called “The Loop.”  

Following the race, awards will be presented to the runners with the fastest finish times. Other awards include the Jim Fixx Award which goes to the individual who collects the most in contributions to the beneficiaries of the race. This award was inaugurated to honor the memory of the late author and running guru, Jim Fixx, an organizer of and participant in previous Darien Road Races. The Darien Road Race benefits , as well the Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital and The Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital.

Atria Darien Awards are awarded to the oldest and youngest runners with the best finish times in the 10-K or the Loop events. Atria Darien is Darien’s independent and assisted living residence.

Longstanding friends of the Darien Road Race also provide significant donations of products and services. The Darien Boat Club will provide a tent and use of its beachfront property while the Darien Lions Club is providing refreshments and food. The Darien Times is the official media sponsor for the race. Also supporting the race will be Daily Darien and 95.9 The FOX. The Goose restaurant hosted the DRR sponsor thank you and kick off gathering.

Registration for the Darien Road Race is $25 in advance and $30 on race day. Runners may pre-register at active.com. Runners may also pre-register the day before the race, Saturday the 17th at The Community Fund of Darien located at 701 Post Road in Darien.

RACE ENTRY

  • Pre-entry fee: $25. Race day fee: $30. 
  • Enter online here or turn in the completed entry form at The Community Fund of Darien (701 Post Rd.) weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Avoid the rush and pick up your number and t-shirt at The Community Fund on Saturday the 17th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Race day check-in and registration is at Pear Tree Point Beachfrom 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. sharp.  
  • Cash, credit cards (Master or Visa only), or personal check made payable to Darien Road Race.

PARKING

  • Parking at Pear Tree Beach is limited. Access to the beach and road will be closed at 12:30 p.m. or when the lot is full. Look for off-site parking and please carpool. 

DIRECTIONS

  • I-95 Exit 10, go south on Noroton Ave. to US-1 (Post Road). Turn left onto US-1, go one block then turn right onto Ring’s End Road. Go straight, cross over bridge, and turn right on Pear Tree Point Road. Bare right at the fork, go 1 mile to Pear Tree Point Beach on the right.
