"Discover Young Life of Darien & Rowayton"

Young Life of Darien and Rowayton (YL) will hold a reception on Wednesday, February 15th, at the DCA House, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. that is free of charge and open to anyone who would like to learn more about how this faith-based program for middle and high school students is already impacting our teens and our community.

There will be a brief presentation about YL at 7:15 p.m. with Bill Paige, V.P. of Field Ministries and Special Assistant to the President of YL. Paige draws on a unique life experience, including 20 years of police and detective work in and around the New York City metropolitan area, 14 years as the associate chaplain at Children's Village.  Paige is also a frequent speaker at chapel services for both National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) teams, including two opportunities to speak at the NFL Pro Bowl.

Other special guests include senior YL leaders as well as two YL National Trustees, Regg Jones III and John Hummel.  Jones is a Darien native and DHS Class of ’78 grad who participated in Young Life in high school and whose parents served on the Darien YL committee for many years. Jones is the founder and managing partner of Greenbriar Equity Group, LLC in Rye, NY, and now serves as committee chair for Greenwich Young Life.  John Hummel has served on YL’s Northeast regional committee, the Norwalk urban committee and the local New Canaan YL committee.  Hummel is the president of AIS Futures Management LLC and AIS Capital Management LLC, a deacon at Stanwich Congregational Church, director of the Family Institute of Connecticut and director of Tyndale Theological Seminary.

Worldwide, Young Life is mainly a volunteer-led organization and YL Darien/Rowayton is no exception.  Through weekly meetings called “club,” small groups, summer camps, weekend excursions, and one-on-one time with kids, YL leaders build unconditional relationships with teenagers, modeling God’s love and mentoring them in the Christian faith. For most kids, YL is a person—their YL leader who sees something in them that others may not.  It’s a person who keeps showing up, cheering them on when things are good and listening when they’re not.

The local YL committee is extending an open invitation to anyone interested in helping kids in Darien and Rowayton discover fun, adventure, purpose and hope in the context of authentic friendships with caring adults.  The combination of local support, proven methods of relating to adolescents, and organizational strength allows Young Life to thrive locally in more than 75 countries, with more than 3,000 staff and 35,000 volunteers, reaching more than a million kids each year with the life-changing message of God’s love for them.  More than 100,000 kids attend Young Life camps worldwide each year.  Young Life has a long legacy of effective work with kids and a reputation for excellence among adults worldwide.  Since its start in Gainesville, Texas, in 1941, Young Life has been making a difference in the lives of millions of kids around the world because they are supported by adults who care about kids in their community.
