Former New Canaan High Catcher Curt Casali Called up to Tampa Bay Rays

Curt Casali, of New Canaan High's Class of 2007, joins the Tampa Bay Rays.

Curt Casali, a catcher for the New Canaan Rams as a high school baseball player, has been called up from the minors to play for the Tampa Bay Rays, the Stamford Advocate reported.

"The 6’2, 225 pound Casali has shown the skills necessary to be a back-up catcher in the majors with the potential to be a starter," Advocate staff writer Scott Ericson wrote in Hearst Newspapers' "Batting Around" blog.

After graduating New Canaan High School in 2007, Casali went to Vanderbilt University, where he played on the baseball team and in June 2011 was drafted by the Detroit Tigers. In March 2012 he was reassigned to the minors and has played for several minor league teams, most recently the Durham Bulls.
