Lindsay Tyler: A Whiz In and Out of the Pool

Senior swimmer graduates with honors in the classroom and in the pool.

Name: Lindsay Tyler

Age: 18

School: Darien High School

Accomplishments: Lindsay's biggest concern as she enters college in the fall could be, "What do I do for an encore?" She'll graduate next month with some remarkable achievements and awards under her belt, starting with Salutatorian --finishing second academically in a class of 317.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. She is a violinist in Darien High School's orchestra and a member of TRI-M Music Honor Society where she serves as community Service Chairperson.

Lindsay won a Gettysburg College Book Award, a Harvard Club Book Award a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Award, is a National Merit Commended Scholar as well as an AP Scholar.

Keys to Excellence: She's equally outstanding in the pool as a member of the DHS swim team. Lindsay is a team record holder in more than 15 events in backstroke, IM, and distance freestyle events. She was captain for the fall 2010 season and was also an academic All-American, All-State, All-FCIAC, FGCIAC Scholar Athlete, Team Scholar Athlete, Team Warrior Award and Team Rookie of the Year.

During her four years on the team, the Blue Wave has won two state titles and a first-ever FCIAC title

In her "spare time," Lindsay volunteers for Person-to-Person, organizing clothing and preparing emergency food orders. She also volunteers for her church at Vacation Bible School, where she's served as a camp counselor for three summers.

She has also participated in raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and was a volunteer swimmer to raise  funds for the Hemisphrectomy Foundation and Swim for Hope in Motion.

Lindsay will be the Assistant Swim Coach at Woodway Country club this summer and then head to Hanover, New Hampshire, in the fall where she'll be a member of the Dartmouth swim team and the class of 2015.

Lindsay is the daughter of Nancy and Tom Tyler.
