Darien High School to Host "Camp Invention" July 15-19

Summer enrichment program promises "science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disguised as fun."

This July Darien High School will host "Camp Invention," a weeklong summer enrichment program for children entering grades 1 through 6 in the 2013-14 school year. 

According to the Darien Public Schools Summer School Course Catalog, the experience, which takes place the week of July 15-19, "immerses children in imaginative play that both reinforces and supplements school-year learning through inquiry-based activities in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) disguised as fun."

The summer school catalog specifies that "local educators facilitate the program modules, and enthusiastic high school and college students serve as program counselors."

This year’s Camp Invention program, "Geo-Quest," employs the basics of physics and engineering to create a Duck Chucking device using components from everyday objects.

Camp Invention curriculum is new each summer. Campers rotate through integrated modules that inspire creative thinking and real-world challenges, fostering problem solving and teamwork skills.

Camp Invention has partnerships with over 1,200 schools in the US.  The organization's mission is to inspire creativity and inventive thinking in children of all ages.
