Meeting Wednesday Explains Darien's Property Tax Revaluation

Top events this week include two occurring on the same night, each with the words "Cocktails" and "Cause" in the title. Don't be confused.

Here's what's going on in and around Darien this week:

  • On Wednesday, Dec. 4, the town's property revaluation process will be explained to the public at a special 7 p.m. meeting in Town Hall. The informational meeting is meant especially for homeowners, prospective buyers and real estate agents in town: "Attend this program and learn about the real estate revaluation process, including practical information for residential and commercial property owners. Topics covered will include timing, the appeal process and the relationship between an assessment and real estate taxes. A question and answer program will follow. Open to all owners, prospective buyers and realtors. [...]"
  • "Maplewood at Darien invites you to attend a discussion on 'When Should I Be Concerned? Is this normal aging or dementia?' on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. with guest speaker Dr. Evan Drake. Attend this one hour session and learn about the difference between cognitive changes associated with normal aging, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia. The role of diagnosis testing will be reviewed as well as the various causes of dementia. The seminar will be followed by a Question and Answer period. [...]"

  • "The Center for Global Studies, an inter-district magnet school languages program within Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, will host an open house on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 a.m. for prospective students and parents.  Students from over 15 school districts in Fairfield County study a choice of Arabic, Chinese or Japanese for all four years of high school to prepare them for a global society.   • Thursday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. at the Country Club of Darien: "Join The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education for our 5th Annual Gingerbread Houses and Cocktails for a Cause. Each guest receives a fully-assembled gingerbread house to decorate while sipping wine, enjoying a light dinner buffet and chatting with friends. Now in its 5th year, the event keeps growing.
