Country Band Friday Night, Kayak Trip Saturday

The country band Gunsmoke plays in Darien from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday as part of the Darien Summer Nights Friday nights concert series at Grove Street Plaza. Voted "Band of The Year" by the New York Metropolitan Country Music Association, Gunsmoke   has performed with Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Ray Price, Waylon Jennings and other country legends, and they've played for two sitting U.S. presidents. The concert is free, sponsored by Grove Street Plaza and Baywater Properties.


A kayak trip and private tour of Chimon Island, led by the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service’s island keeper, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. Visit the event announcement on Norwalk Patch for cost to attend, kayak rental information and other details. Registration is required via the Friends of the Norwalk Islands website.

Darien Library's "Tween Film Fridays" series continues at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 2, with "Hugo." The films usually end by about 3 p.m. (sometimes earlier). The series is for kids, ages 10 to 12, and all movies are rated no higher than PG, according to the library.

Doors at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester open at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 28 for "An Evening with YES." The progressive, classic rock band formed 45 years ago.

The Norwalk and Stamford branches of the NAACP are working together toorganize a "Stop the Violence - We Are Trayvon Martin" rally. The rally is scheduled for Saturday, July 27th at 12:00 noon at the corner of Richmond Hill and Rose Park Ave.
