Turkey Trot, Pop-up Shops, Realist Art, What 'This Is Not'

What's up this week in and around Darien for those out and about:

• "The New Canaan Library, through a sponsorship from the Friends of the New Canaan Library, announces the continuation of the ArtScapades six-part series on European Art. On Monday, Nov. 25, ArtScapades presents a look at Realism. This lecture explains how Realism moved away from historical and literary themes towards common, ordinary subjects.  Works by Corot, Daumier, Millet, Courbet and Bonheur will be presented."

• Tuesday, 7 p.m., at Darien Library: "Anne Umland, the Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller Curator of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, will give a lecture on the great Belgian painter [one of whose most famous works is "This Is Not a Hat"] René Magritte’s early Surrealist years, with special reference to works of art included in the exhibition Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary 1926-1938, on view at MoMA through January 13, 2014."

• The Rowayton Turkey Trot run takes place on the morning of Thanksgiving Day. "Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Rowatyon Library (33 Highland Ave., Rowatyon). This year, proceeds benefit the Rowayton Library."

• Stamford Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot: "Join us for the annual turkey trot race around Harbor Point in Stamford, Non- Perishable food items and new hats and mittens will also be collected to help local charities in need!Event start time – 8:30 a.m. & (Day of) Registration – 7:30 a.m. at Commons Park, Washington Boulevard, Stamford. Participation is free of charge and encouraged! Here’s to your health! Happy Thanksgiving!"
