It's a Crowded Kids Weekend in Darien

There are all sorts of things to do in and around Darien on Dec. 6, 7 and 8. Here are five.

Here's a bunch of stuff going on this weekend involving kids (or at least their parents):

  • "The United Church Nursery School, in Rowayton, is hosting their annual Trunk Show.  It is one of the school's biggest fundraisers and is taking place on Dec. 5 (5 to 9 p.m.) and [Friday] Dec. 6 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Raffle and kids corner on Friday." -- from an event listing on Darien Patch
  • "Come to the Darien Historical Society and get holiday gifts to treasure for a lifetime: Silhouettes of your children, adults and pets. The Darien Historical Society is delighted to once again host professional silhouette artist Deborah O’ Connor. [...] She captures the images of children of all ages, including infants, as well as adults and even pets! Sittings may be scheduled from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 (early dismissal that day for Darien elementary schools). The sitting takes only five minutes and each original silhouette costs only $30 (extra copies @ $15 each for up to two more and frames are also available)." -- from a news release sent out by the Darien Historical Society (but you can learn more here)
  • From the Darien YMCA newsletter: "Flick and Float Friday, Dec. 6: Join us for an evening of 'floating' in the small pool while watching Shark Tale! For ages 3+, children must be accompanied by an adult (over the age of 18). All flotation devices will be provided, (ones from home are not allowed). There will be free swim from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7:00. Fee: $1 for members, $2 for non-members.  Register now at the Front Desk. For more information contact Suzanne Richards, School Age Director at (203) 655-8228 ext. 1331 or srichards@darien-ymca.org."
  • From the Darien YMCA newsletter: "Need some time to get your holiday shopping or cleaning done without your children in tow? Then let the YMCA staff entertain them for a few hours! Holiday Helpers will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (you may sign up for any block of time). Ages: 3-10 years (children must be fully potty trained).  Register at the YMCA front desk.  For more information, contact Suzanne Richards, School Age Director at (203) 655-8228 ext. 1331 or email srichards@darien-ymca.org. Check out our website for pricing and additional information."
  • "Please help Darien Youth Hockey Association PeeWee A's support Blessings in a Backpack. This weekend we're having a drive to collect cans of chili, stew and chicken noodle soup for Blessings in a Backpack.  Collection boxes will be at both ice rinks this weekend. Blessings in a Backpack (www.blessingsinabackpack.org) is a nonprofit organization that strives to support the 62% of elementary school students in America who qualify for the free or reduced-price meal program. Students that qualify for free or reduced meals often do not receive the right amount of nutrition on weekends, which can negatively affect their performance in the classroom." -- from an event listing on Darien Patch
Update: Here are some more events, from Stamford Patch:

  • Both the New Canaan 'Homes for the Holidays' House Tour and Holiday Stroll kick off Friday, with the house tour beginning at 10 a.m. and the wintery holiday themed community stroll kicking off at 5:30 p.m. along Elm Street. The former runs $90 for day-of tickets, which benefit local charities and organizations, while the latter is a free event open to the family and featuring lots of activities and goodies. On Sunday at 10 a.m., the Village Critter Outfitter will hold its 2013 Holiday Photo Session.
