Darien vs. New Canaan Football & More This Weekend

There are lots of events for Darien folks taking place this Saturday.

A slew of things to do, mo' places to go and a lot that's hot this weekend for Darien:

"Saturday's highly anticipated state championship showdown between rivals New Canaan and Darien will be played in Stamford. The game [originally scheduled to take place in New Britain] will now kick off at Stamford High School's Boyle Stadium at 11:05 a.m.," reports the NC Football Blog of New Canaan Patch.

A Darien wreath-laying ceremony will take place at noon Saturday at Spring Grove Veteran's Cemetery (across Hecker Avenue from Darien Library parking lot. The event is part of Wreaths Across America, a tribute to veterans.

"'Scenes from the Nutcracker' is at the Darien Arts Center [Friday, Saturday and Sunday ...] This Tchaikovsky holiday classic is abbreviated to an hour-long narrated show, specifically geared for young audiences.This year’s production features new dances, characters and colorful costumes, guaranteed to delight all audience members. "The Darien Arts Center will be holding a Winter Holiday Workshop for ages 5 and up on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Children can get into the holiday spirit by making fun, seasonal crafts to take home and display. Moms can get some extra shopping time! Reservations are requested at (203) 655-8683 so that enough material can be provided for each child."

From the Darien YMCA newsletter: "Need some time to get your holiday shopping or cleaning done without your children in tow? Then let the YMCA staff entertain them for a few hours! Holiday Helpers will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (you may sign up for any block of time). Ages: 3-10 years (children must be fully potty trained).  Register at the YMCA front desk.  For more information, contact Suzanne Richards, School Age Director at (203) 655-8228 ext. 1331 or email srichards@darien-ymca.org.
