Tokeneke Pumpkin Carnival and Other Top Events this Weekend

Kids have the Tokeneke Pumpkin Carnival on Saturday; parents have "The Prisoner of Second Avenue"; everybody could go on the Marine Aquarium's marine life study cruises.

Here's what's up this weekend:

  • The Tokeneke Pumpkin Carnival takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tokeneke School in Darien, with rides and attractions for kids of all ages, as well as games and activities, including Pumpkin Plinko, Ghoulie Goalie and the Apple Launch. Local restaurants will be selling food and a Newman’s Own lemonade stand will also be introduced this year. The carnival is a money raiser for enrichment programs at the school.
  • Check out Westport Community Theatre's first show of the 2013–14 season, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, written by Neil Simon and directed by Lester Colodny, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday,  and 2 p.m. Sunday.
  • Take one of the Maritime Aquarium's Marine Life Study Cruises in Norwalk Harbor on Saturdays at 1 p.m. in September and October: "Cruise out for close encounters with crabs, fish, lobsters and always a few surprises when you come aboard the research vessel Oceanic. [...] Aquarium educators put participants to work in collecting and examining animals. [...] Tickets are $20.50, or $18.50 for Aquarium members. Maritime Aquarium Study Cruises are good for ages 8 and older. Space on the Oceanic is limited so advance reservations are strongly recommended. Walk-up tickets will be sold, space permitting. [...] Purchase tickets or get more details at www.maritimeaquarium.org or (203)852-0700, ext. 2206."
  • "One hundred sixteen butterflies will be released to Freedom on October 6 (Domestic Violence Awareness Month) at the Darien Nature Center.  The event which will begin at 1:30 PM is sponsored by the Darien Domestic Abuse Partnership,  each butterfly representing a domestic violence call received by the Darien Police Department over the past year.  The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be served.  Proclamations will be read by Rep. Terrie Wood and Sen. Bob Duff." -- from an announcement on Darien Patch
