The Darien Community Association (DCA) provides a unique community home in a welcoming setting, with stimulating learning and outreach experiences for the enrichment of the community. We offer a wide variety of activities and programs, enjoyed by 1500 participants each month. For example, we hold an Art Lecture Series with well-known curators each fall, and a well-attended Academic Lecture Series on Global Issues in the winter. Classes offered include bridge, exercise, cooking, French language, French Literature, financial workshops, painting and more. Other programs include Mom’s Morning In activities for children, Theater Bus and Encore programs to see high-profile Broadway shows, and afternoon teas with seating looking out to our formal garden. DCA activities and programs are open the public, although members benefit from reduced program rates.
The DCA has several groups covering an array of interests: Blue Notes singing group, Page Turners monthly book discussion group, Writer’s Workshop group for budding authors, Duo Piano Group, Greenhouse Group where plants are grown through the winter and sold at the DCA Plant Sale in the spring, and a Women's Group that holds monthly luncheons from October to June. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the DCA Meadowlands is a 15,000 square foot Regency-style estate on eight acres of land. Whether it’s a small gathering or a large formal celebration, the property offers a lovely setting for weddings, parties and business events. Ranging from a spacious Garden Wing with attached commercial kitchen, to a boardroom or intimate library, all rooms look out to the formal garden, designed by the “Dean of American Women Landscape Architects” Ellen Biddle Shipman. The property also includes a revitalized, four acre bird sanctuary. DCA Volunteers also operate the DCA Thrift Shop, located on 996 Post Road in Darien.  Funds from the shop, as well as DCA activities, lectures, membership fees and donations support the DCA’s philanthropy. We are the largest provider of scholarships to Darien High School graduates. Contributing $50,000 a year, we fund scholarships for not only new, but returning college students as well. To date, the DCA is proud to have awarded over $2 million in funds, to more than 1300 graduates.
