New Canaan Teen Accused in SUV Fatality To Be Tried Adult Court

Although she is 16 years old, seriousness of charge requires she be prosecuted in state Superior Court.

A 16-year-old New Canaan girl accused of striking and killing a jogger while driving an SUV in March will be prosecuted as an adult. The charge against her of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle requires she be tried in state Superior Court, rather than Juvenile Court. The accident occurred the morning of March 24 on New Canaan Avenue in Norwalk. An affidavit Norwalk Police prepared to obtain an arrest warrant for her alleges she was using her iPhone to look at the New Canaan High School website when she struck the jogger, 44-year-old Norwalk resident Kenneth Dorsey. In the affidavit, Norwalk Sgt. David B. O’Connor says the girl’s iPhone was seized as evidence and given to a Wilton sergeant who is experienced in performing forensic …

Black Bears Spotted in Northwest Greenwich

A mountain lion (maybe more than one) was spotted in northwest Greenwich, now bears have been spotted, and the town issued an advisory without specific information—can tigers be far behind?

Lions and tigers, and bears, oh my. Oh yes, there are bears in Greenwich. The Greenwich Conservation Commission has issued an alert on the Town of Greenwich website that "there have been a couple bear sightings in town this week." The posting, dated Monday, May 14, is based upon "anecdotal reports. We want to make sure that people know we have black bears in Greenwich. Some people sent a couple e-mails and they didn’t have specifics," said Denise Savageau, Greenwich Conservation director. Both Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraid Gray and state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesman Dwayne Gardner said neither of their agencies have received reports of bruins in Greenwich. Savageau said the Conservation Commission …
