Maybe I expect too much Piper. Or maybe Betty's right and I should try running things for awhile.Read More I've known for years that that accident I saw this morning was inevitable. At least school had started and there wasn't one of our children in the crosswalk where the cars collided.

I'm with Chris on this one. And it's not thinking about it 5 hours later as I was on the phone andRead More social media with other parents wondering what the schools were going to do. I got my Code Red just after 7. That was before MMS buses pick up kids and long before the buses pick up the early elementary schools. Dr. Falcone totally dropped the ball on this one. There were kids who got on their buses to elementary school because the bus came before the official 90 minute delay was called. My kids didn't get on the bus because I actually placed a call to my school and found out about it. I mean, really, the police tell every resident to remain home and the buses still run and a delay is not called immediately? It's not Wednesday morning quarter-backing. It's common sense.

Let me get this straight- this all stemmed from a man who saw another man (possibly) with a gun inRead More rest stop? And somehow he's assumed to be a fugitive? How does this put school kids in danger? If I had my carry permit (which this man might have) that would be the most likely place i'd want to be armed- a rest stop off of 95. Also, in CT your gun is supposed to be concealed if it's on you, but maybe it poked through his belt a little when he was taking a whizz. Are we going to find out if he indeed was caught? They never caught the guy who shot that woman at the norwalk parking lot awhile back, nor did they catch the guy who shot up that liquor store on hope street.....there are certainly more illegally armed people around here than you might suspect....

I would love to see a new fawn in the wild.

GREAT info (love the graphic!) -- thanks so much for posting! that graphic should be posted at theRead More entrances to all of our parks...

Wildlife caregivers receive calls daily regarding sightings of fawns. That is what prompted me toRead More post this particular blog. The fawns are often difficult to see, because they are quiet, still and blend in to their surroundings so well. Nature's way of protecting them. However, when mom places them on your front stoop near the hedges...they can be in full view...and may be safe from wild predators, but not necessarily dogs, cats and humans!

<<...she didn't want to say what the options were because some people might get angry...>Read More I hope that one of the options did NOT include construction that would allow these huge trucks to pass under the overpass and though the middle of town.
Siwanoy June 18, 2013 at 03:16 pm
Crazy idea, take the money we've made from the fines given to the truckers that have hit the bridgeRead More and put in a over height warning system. A while ago it was said it was too expensive, BS, they put one on the Merritt TEMPORARILY when doing construction on a bridge, I'm sure we could use one of the low-budget versions.
J June 18, 2013 at 09:29 pm
There is a height limit posted on the bridge. If truck drivers are too irresponsible to know theRead More height limits of their trucks that they are paid to drive that is their issue, not our towns problem

If you are on a municipal sewer system or think that the water may be from your septic system, youRead More will need additional steps. If you aren't sure, when the water is calm, flush a toilet. If there is movement in the water, call a plumber. Since this water may be contaminated with fecal matter, more cleaning/decontaminating is necessary as well. Also, the speed of water removal is only an issue when you are talking feet of water and using higher capacity pumps.

18.4%! Watch what happens - a lot of shouting, etc. and then the state will cut them off at 17.5%Read More or some other ridiculous high amount - and say it has completed its responsibility to protect its residents!

That 4th paragraph is trouble. It misspells Talmadge Hill as “Tullmage" Hill. Worse, asRead More written, it says police produced a bag of weed, not the occupant of the car. I get it, rewriting police reports is mind-numbing work, but you still need to get the story straight!
David Gurliacci (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 12:44 pm
Thanks, Elmcrest. The paragraph's been changed.

Good job parents. An independent investigation should have happened months ago, though. ClearlyRead More leadership is asleep at the wheel. Maybe something will finally be done about this mess and the kids can get their services back.
