Darien Housing Authority

The Darien Housing Authority owns and manages two state public housing projects – Allen-O'Neill Homes and OldMore Town Hall Homes – in Darien in accordance with State Regulations and with the oversight of the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority.</p> <p>The Darien Housing Authority administers the waiting list for Clock Hill Homes, a 30-unit, moderate income condominium development created by the Town of Darien in conjunction with Fairfield 2,000 Homes.</p> <p>The Darien Housing Authority is currently planning for the future redevelopment of the Allen-O'Neill Homes. During 2006 and 2007, the Town of Darien granted $200,000 to the Darien Housing Authority to undertake predevelopment studies and activities related to the improvement of the site.</p> <p>Although the Darien Housing Authority is located in Town Hall, it is not actually a part of Town government – the Housing Authority is an independent agency.</p>

The Democratic Town Committee (DTC) is the Democratic Party organization in the Town of Darien. Up to 25 committeeMore members are elected to two-year terms by a caucus. Members work together to elect Democrats to office, to recommend qualified volunteers for appointment to Darien’s governmental boards and commissions, and to study and influence local, state and federal government policy of concern to Darien. The group meets once a month at the Town Hall and is chaired by John Davis.
Darien Library

According to Hennen's American Public Library Rating, the Darien Library ranks in the top 10 public libraries in theMore county for its size. And according to statistics, it’s also one of the busiest in the state. Over 1,300 people walk in and out of the building on any given day. <br /><br />The library has an enormous catalog with over 155,000 books, 5,000 audio books, 12,000 DVDs, more than 5,000 CDs and cassettes and over 340 newspapers, magazines and periodicals. If you’re a Darien resident, you will be issued a library card immediately, and you can use it to borrow material from any library in the state.  <br /><br />There is also a wide range of programs, activities and events at the library. These include lectures, classes, book discussion groups, Poet’s Voice, the Adult Summer Reading program, book sales, author talks, movie nights, a holiday concert, and a number of programs for children and teens. <br /><br />Another way to get involved is through the library’s employment and volunteer opportunities. The library offers part-time employment opportunities for high school students and always welcomes volunteers.<br /><br />The library operates through Town tax money, and donations to the Annual Campaign fund all books, software, programs, and other materials.</p> <p>The Darien Library website provides extensive information about the library and other organizations and clubs in the Darien community.</p>

Fire Marshal's Office

Established in 1980 as a fulltime department, the Fire Marshal works closely with Darien's three volunteer fireMore departments.</p> <p>The Office, located in the Town Hall, includes a Fire Marshal (Robert J. Buch), Deputy Fire Marshal (Marc P. McEwan), part-time Fire Inspector (David R. Francis), and a Secretary (Angela Clark).</p> <p>The Darien Fire Marshal works with and through the Connecticut State Fire Marshal's Office. Building Officials and Fire Marshals are under the State Department of Public Safety.<br /><br />Duties of the Fire Marshal include reviewing plans for most construction, fire investigation, fire prevention education, permits for blasting and tank removal, and certification of hazardous materials transport vehicles. <br /> <br />The Fire Marshal also issues permits and inspects all gasoline, commercial fuel oil and liquid petroleum gas tank installations for Darien.</p>
