Emily moved from New Orleans to Connecticut in 2007 to attend the University of Connecticut to study Journalism. She started writing for Patch in December of 2010 when the company really started to garner attention. She did freelance work for towns all over Connecticut until she was hired as the New Canaan editor in May of 2012. When she's not working, Emily enjoys attending racing events, participating in fashion shows and cooking. Beliefs At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know. Politics I am not registered, but, if I had to label it, I would consider myself a Libertarian. I believe in small-scope government, freedom and voluntary association. Religion At this time, I am not associated with any religion. I attended Catholic school from grade 2 to 12. Local Hot-Button Issues Among the many important issues in New Canaan, I think the education system is a topic that effects everyone. New Canaan is know for their great public schools and I think the whole town likes that. New Canaanites want to make sure the young ones of the town are properly educated and can continue on to be succesful and represent New Canaan proudly.
