Board of Ed Tuesday Discusses Calendar, Pre-K & DHS Literacy

The Board of Education may not make all of its documents relating to a meeting immediately available beforehand on its website, but when a reporter asks for them, they deliver without a fuss.

The Board of Education will discuss individualized "Student Success Plans" for middle school and high school students, along with a future school calendar and pre-Kindergarten literacy at its meeting tonight.

On the agenda (attached) are discussions on:

  • A report on how Darien High School English teachers are trying "to improve students "reading, writing, speaking and thinking skills" (report attached).
  • A proposal for "Student Success Plans" —state-mandated, individualized reports showing goals for individual students in middle school and high school (report attached).
  • A proposed school calendar for the 2014-2015 school year (memorandum attached). The school year would begin Aug. 25, 2014 and end on June 10, 2015 (or later if schools are closed due to bad weather).
  • A proposed gift of a cello for the Music Department (memorandum attached).

The board meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Board of Education offices at Darien Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Rd. Board of Education meetings are commonly televized.
