Help! Leslie's Black Lab Needs a Name Today

Patch loves pets and today we need your help naming this lucky Labrador.

Our gentle black Lab mix made her way to our Greenwich doorstep this Christmas. Not that she was a spontaneous Christmas gift. Her arrival was long in the making.

A couple months ago Heather Trocola of In The Lead Dog Training mentioned a rescued lab-mix she was training for Strays & Others in New Canaan.

Nearly euthanized
Despite coming within hours of being euthanized at a rural shelter in the south, a series of connections resulted in this dog’s major “cleanup,” vet care in Newnan, GA, and transport for the long ride north.

The Buddy Test
Next, our sweet girl had to pass the “Buddy Test.” Our senior Heinz 57, Buddy, came from Greenwich Animal Control and is now a certified therapy dog. That’s a long way from being snagged roaming the streets by animal control. Buddy doesn’t seem to mind having his paws and ears nibbled, his slumber interrupted, and, worst, his supply of Greenies divvied up.

Finally, leader, Claudia Weber, checked out our home, references, and preparedness for a 50-pound bundle of energy.

Our sweet girl sorely needs a name
Strays & Others called her “Emma.” However, we already have an “Ella” in the house, and the tongue twister resulted in both girls answering to “Ell-M.N.O.P.” We need help.

Create a free Patch login name and password if you don't already have one, and submit name suggestions in the comment box below so we can name our velvet-y beauty by New Year's.

Then, if you’re an animal lover, take advantage of Patch’s unique format. You may find your next volunteer job, adoptable pet, or rescue group worthy of a donation through Patch.

If you have room in your home for a loving dog or cat, consider adopting from one of the terrific local organizations including:

• New Canaan-based Strays & Others who showered “Emma” with love. They invested time and funds for her obedience training, spaying, boarding, microchipping, and vet care. S&O’s adopting families are vetted thoroughly and their placement success rate is stellar.

• also does a fabulous job finding homes dogs and cats at their rescue sanctuary just over the Greenwich town line in Armonk.
