Noroton Burglaries Continue, Vehicle Doors Still Unlocked

The binge of motor vehicle burglaries in Noroton continues apace, with thefts from more unlocked vehicles.

Editor's note: Updated at 11:54 a.m. Tuesday with more information on last bullet item.

Even after police announced and news organizations reported a string of thefts from unlocked vehicles in Noroton two weeks ago, car doors apparently remain unlocked last week and thieves continued thieving.

Darien police announced several more reports last week of the same kind of overnight thefts as in the earlier incidents:

  • Sometime between 10 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday, someone entered a woman's unlocked 2004 Volvo XC90, parked by her home on Wilson Ridge Road. The glovebox was left open and its contents had been gone through. Nothing was taken except some coins.
  • On Tuesday night, a woman saw two people in her 2004 Jaguar, parked by her house on Walmsley Road. The people ran off down the street. A police dog was used to try to track them but was unsuccessful. The glovebox and center console in the car, which was unlocked, had been rifled through. On the street, officers found a charger cord for a cell phone or similar device. Two rolls of quarters worth $20 were taken.
  • On Hollow Tree Ridge Road, just south of that road's intersection with Miles Road, a resident heard the family dog barking at about 11:40 p.m., and then she thought she heard a car door close. She went outside and saw that her unlocked 2004 Kia Spectra had been entered and items in the center console had been moved around. Nothing appeared to have been taken.
  • Sometime between 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, and 12:30 a.m. the next day, when the owner went to the car, an unlocked 2013 Nissan Pathfinder was entered. The glove box was entered and someone went through the contents. A GPS device was left behind and nothing was reported stolen.
  • Sometime between 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m., the Tonneau cover was stolen from the back of a 2013 Silverado pickup truck parked on Fitch Lane was stolen. The daytime theft was the biggest one reported: The cloth and plastic cover was valued at $940.
