Darien lost a tiebreaker with Stamford, which also clinched with a 49-39 win over Fairfield Warde, and grabbed the No. 8 seed. The Blue Wave will play at top Danbury on Saturday in the FCIAC quarterfinals at a time to be announced.

Kate Bushell scored nine, Daley Naughton contributed eight and Kelly Karezewski chipped in with seven in Darien's balanced attack.

Darien put itself in position to clinch with a crucial 49-42 victory over Warde on Monday.

Bassick finished the season at 0-20.

In the other FCIAC playoff matchups, No. 2 St. Joseph hosts No. 7 Stamford at 5 p.m. and No. 4 Wilton entertains No. 5 Norwalk, TBA.

No. 3 Trumbull will be the home team against Trinity Catholic, but the game will be played at Fairfield Ludlowe at 2 p.m. since Trumbull is hosting the Class LL wrestling state tournament this weekend.

2. Discovery of scoring glitch results in removal of state title from Darien girls track team

Due to a scoring error, the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, has stripped the Darien girls indoor track team of its Class L state championship.

The reversal gives Windsor the title with 71 points while Darien is now the runner-up with 70.

The CIAC offered the following explanation for the change in a release:

"During the seeding for Saturday's girls indoor track State Open, it was discovered that a data input error had caused incorrect results to be distributed at Monday's Class L Championship Meet and subsequently be posted on the CIAC website.

"A Darien High School girls pole vaulter was listed in a four-way tie for third, which would have been worth 3.5 points for the team. During the seeding for the open it was determined the vaulter should actually have been listed in 7th place due to the number of misses tiebreaker.

A subsequent review of the official scoresheet from the judges showed this was in fact the case, but that the data had been incorrectly transferred to the scoring system. The girls pole vault results and the team scores for the meet have been corrected."

Darien coach Steve Norris told the Stamford Advocate that he is considering an appeal of the CIAC's decision.

3. Darien girls hockey ties Ridgefield

The Darien and Ridgefield High School girls hockey teams played to a 2-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Winter Garden Arena.

Ridgefield goaltender Heather Ogden preserved the tie by stopping Ellie Bennett on a penalty shot with less than two minutes remaining.

Bennett and Sara Shaker scored for Darien, which is 11-5-1 overall and 9-3-1 in the FCIAC.

Kerry Sheehan-Delany and Cara Lockwood had the goals for Ridgefield, which is 12-5-1 and 9-3-1.

Ogden finished with 23 saves while Shannon Hall turned aside 10 shots for Darien, which rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn the tie.
