DUI Arrests on Tokeneke, Post Rds., Leroy Ave.

Police charged a Darien and a Stamford man with driving while under the influence of alcohol this weekend in separate arrests.

A Darien man and a Stamford man were each arrested this weekend in separate incidents charging them with driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Captain Frederick W. Komm, commander of the investigative services bureau and a spokesman for the , gave these accounts of the incidents:

Saturday: Post Road, Tokeneke Road

Police saw a 1989 Jeep Wrangler being driven eratically at 1:44 a.m. as it turned from the Post Road onto Tokeneke Road, and while turning onto the southbound entrance ramp of Interstate 95 at Exit 12.

After the arresting officer stopped the Jeep on the entrance ramp, the officer could smell alcohol. The driver, William Marty, 27, of Orchard Street, Stamford, failed field sobriety tests.

He was arrested on a charge of driving while under the influence, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and driving without a driver's license.

Marty posted a $50 bond and is scheduled to appear April 24 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Sunday: Post Road and Leroy Avenue

Shortly before 1:33 a.m. Sunday, a police officer saw a 2005 GMC Trailblazer leaving Interstate 95 at Exit 11 and stop at the intersection of the Post Road and Leroy Avenue with its headlights off.

The officer stopped the car and spoke with its driver, Michael Costa, , 26, of Country Club Road. The officer could smell alcohol on Costa's breath, and Costa failed a field sobriety test.

As Costa's car was checked by police, they found in the glove compartment a red smoking pipe with residue of marijuana on it.

Costa was charged with driving while under the influence, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without headlights on. He was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear April 26 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
