Middlesex Outstanding Success at Charter Oak

Middlesex Middle School hosted the Third annual Charter Oak Scholastic Open quiz bowl tournament on Sunday, January 26. Even though this year’s tournament was extremely competitive, Middlesex achieved outstanding success with three of the four Middlesex teams finishing in the top 15% and, thereby, qualifying for the National Championship Tournament in Atlanta this May.

This year’s Charter Oak was the largest ever consisting of 26 teams from 11 middle schools from four states.  The Charter Oak quiz bowl competition consisted of students answering questions that ranged over the entire spectrum of middle school curriculum, as well as, special events, sports, and popular culture.

These are the top four teams in the Charter Oak tournament who are heading to the National Championship: MMS Blue team - 1st place (Julia Tong, Evan Tong, Thomas Brown, Folke Bruno, John Phipps), Warren B team from Warren NJ 2nd place, MMS Silver team - 3rd place (Casey Martin, Griffin Samroengraja, Shashank Sangaru, Colin Adams, Maya Nalawade) and MMS White  - 4th place (Brett Peters, Kieran Daly, Cole Hanson, Henry Steinthal, Nick Derby, Jackson Leone).
