Rep. Terrie Wood Nominates Maura Carley to Access Health Connecticut Board

Hartford- State Representative Terrie Wood (R-141) nominated Darien resident Maura Carley, President and CEO of Healthcare Navigation, LLC, to be on the Access Health Connecticut Board. She has since received the official appointment to the board from House Minority Leader, Larry Cafero (R-142). Maura’s new responsibilities on Access Health include managing the exchange and operating an online Marketplace where individuals and small employers can compare and purchase health insurance plans that meet federal requirements mandated in the Affordable Care Act. Maura is the author of Health Insurance: Navigating Traps & Gaps, which is currently ranked #1 on Amazon.com’s list of Healthcare books. The book details the devastating consequences of being ‘coverage illiterate.’ The book also chronicles numerous personal stories of loss and heartbreak as a result of people losing their health insurance. In 1999, Ms. Carley founded Healthcare Navigation, LLC, a patient advocacy and consulting firm in Darien, CT. Today, Healthcare Navigation has offices in New York City, Chicago and Denver in addition to Darien. The corporate office is in Shelton, CT. Maura will also be one of the panelists on Rep. Wood’s “Access Healthcare 2013” panel on Monday at the Darien Library from 7:00-8:30 p.m. “Maura is an exemplary health care executive and I was so pleased she was available to serve on this most important board. With her depth of experience and practical common sense, the citizens of Connecticut will be well served,” said Rep. Wood. The Connecticut Health Exchange (the Exchange) was created by the Connecticut Legislature in 2011 and is a quasi-public agency to satisfy requirements of the federal Affordable Care Act. The mission of the Connecticut Health Insurance Exchange is to increase the number of insured residents in Connecticut, promote health, lower costs and eliminate health disparities.
