ROYLE Goes GREEN

Royle Elementary School had a full week of recognizing Earth Day and how we can all do more to protect our planet. The Royle Green Group introduced Royle Acts of G-R-E-E-N. Monday, Earth Day, G stood for Go Garden! Green bracelets were given to students, faculty and staff. The Garden committee had a planting station during lunchtime for students to make their own pots and plant seeds. All classrooms were provided with classroom planting kits. Tuesday, R was Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Recycle bins were placed in the front hall for collection this week of batteries, cellphones, chargers, inc cartridges, cameras and calculators. Wednesday, E was for Energize! The Go Green Committee promoted simple, active, energizing acts like no idling. Encouraging walking, biking or riding the school bus. Picking up litter and bringing trash-free lunches and reusable water bottles to refill in hydration stations. Thursday, E was for Eat Healthy! Health Ed was on hand during lunchtime and provided some important messages about eating healthy. Friday, N was for NO Waste! Go Green Committee presented DEG 4th grade water conservation and Darien Nature Center 5th grade save LI Sound and Sea Turtles. Everyone was encouraged to wear GREEN on Friday.
