YWCA Darien/Norwalk Classes and Events

The YWCA Darien/Norwalk is located at 49 Old Kings Highway North and offers a variety of programs for women in lower Fairfield County. It is dedicated to giving women the support and tools they need to transform their lives, be confident in their choices and raise healthy families. Take Mom to Yoga

An evening yoga class for moms and kids of elementary school age held in the YWCA Dance Studio.

Yoga instructor Talita Moss has created a unique program where moms and kids bond over learning yoga poses and body awareness. This class is an opportunity to have quality time with your child in a relaxing environment. A 4 session package can be used consecutively or as your schedule permits. Classes take place on Wednesdays, from 6:30-7:30pm. Registration is ongoing.

Women of Distinction Nominations

The nominations for our Women of Distinction Awards will be accepted until March 21st.  Nomination forms are available at ywcadariennorwalk.org.  Women selected will be honored at the Annual Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 29th at the Woodway Country Club in Darien.  This award is a wonderful opportunity to honor women who have made a significant contribution to our local, national, and global communities.

 

Job Search Support Program for Women

This program is designed to support women in all aspects of the job search process and offers computer classes in Microsoft applications and keyboarding, one-on-one resume writing assistance, and individual job search strategy and coaching with an individualized approach. Computer Classes:

Intermediate Excel, three 2-hour classes on Wednesdays from 10 am to noon or 6-8pm. Class meets on March 26, April 2, and April 9.

Intermediate Word, three 2-hour classes on Thursdays from 10 am to noon or 6-8pm. Class     meets March 27, April 3, and April 10.

 

Alumni Cocktail Event

Former members of the YW are invited to reconnect with old YW friends while making new ones at the first annual Alumni Cocktail Party on Wednesday, April 9th.  An evening of reminiscing and learning about new events and activities is planned. Registration will be required at ywcadariennorwalk.org/alumni

 

 

Children’s Painting Workshop

Painting classes for children ages 5 through 12, take place during vacation week, Monday, April 14th through Friday, April 18th from 9:30am to noon. Professional artist, Rowana Shepard, will teach children painting technique, color use and composition, while inspiring creativity and an enjoyment of the artistic process. Space is limited. 

 

YW Stand Against Racism Film Festival

The YW will hold a film festival at the Darien Library during YWCA Stand Against Racism Week, April 21st through 26th, showcasing documentaries, mainstream, and classic films that present cultural insights, through-provoking issues, and the strength & resolve of people faced with personal challenges and/or injustice.  For schedule of films and show times, please visit ywcadariennorwalk.org/special-events/sar-2014

 

Toddler Time & Summer Fun:

There are a few openings available for our Toddler Time program on Monday (9:15am), Tuesday and Thursday (8:45am & 11:00am) and Friday (9:15am).  This is a 2-hour drop-off enrichment program open to children turning 2 before December 31st, 2014.  The program runs from September 2014 through May 2015. Our Summer Fun program also has spots available on Tuesdays (8:45am and 11am) and on Thursdays (11am).  This program is open to children who turn 2 prior to July 1, 2014.  Three-year-olds are also eligible to attend Summer Fun.  This program meets in June and July.
