The Depot Gets a Makeover

Quiz Question No. 1: What color was The Depot youth center before the recent paint job?

Janice Marzano, program director at The Depot, says people can't remember what the old color was before painters swooped in last week to spruce up the exterior of the former Noroton Heights railroad station house.

Quiz Question No. 2: What color was the caboose before it was recently restored to its original red color?

Jennifer Montanaro, The Depot's executive director, said Executive Craftsman Inc. of Stamford is the contractor for the project and also refurbished the interior of the building a few months ago.

The caboose, which has been attached to the building for years, used to be a part of the Victoria's Station restaurant in Darien before that business (part of a now-defunct chain) closed down. (It used to be located where Bertucci's now sits.)

Marzano says people are always telling her that the caboose was where they had their first legal drink (after yours truly told her just that).

Quiz Question No. 3: what shade of blue is The Depot now sporting?

ANSWERS (scroll down a bit)

(1) The Depot was maroon red until the new paint job.

(2) The caboose was green just before this paint job (it had been red before that).

(3) The new color is called "Hale Navy" (which sounds a lot like the name of a certain television show which used to star Connecticut native Ernest Borgnine, but that's another story).

(In the attached photos, Janice Marzano stands in front of the now-blue building, and Ken Gonzalez paints by the front door.)
