Carlos Santana To Headline Greenwich Town Party 2014

Rock legend Carlos Santana will be the headliner for the fourth annual Greenwich Town Party (GTP) next year.

The announcement that the prolific, award-winning guitarist would be the headline performer at the concert was made Monday morning, GTP organizer and event planner Scot Weicker.

The announcement comes about a month after the Greenwich Board of Selectmen gave initial approval to expand the concert program that is held the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park. On May 24, 2014, the daylong concert with a variety of acts also will be held at the Havemeyer Field of Greenwich Common, behind the Board of Education headquarters on Greenwich Avenue.

The expansion of the concert venue will allow the GTP to host double the number of attendees, to 10,000 people.

The Grammy Award-winning Santana, whose hits include Black Magic Woman and Evil Ways, was one of several artists honored earlier this month at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Santana has been on the music scene since the 1960s, starting out in San Francisco and finally emerging as a musical force to be recognized at Woodstock in 1969, according to his website.

Santana received Billboard Latin Music Awards’ 2009 Lifetime Achievement honor and Billboard’s Century Award in 1996. He also has been cited by Rolling Stone as #15 on the magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”

Last year's concert, which featured James Taylor as the headliner, tickets, which are limited to Greenwich residents, were sold out in four minutes. With this year's announcement of Santana as the headliner, limited tickets are being sold, starting Monday, Dec. 16.

Here are the details, as provided by Weicker:

Between December 16th and January 15th, the Greenwich Town Party is offering the “Santana Claus Giving Ticket”. Includes:

1) $400 "Fair Share Ticket" guaranteeing unlimited access to both venues
2) $50 donation to the GTP
3) $50 donation to the Greenwich Police Scholarship Fund
