Weekend Calendar, Sept. 16-18: Puppets, Pirates, and Crafts Galore

A roundup of some of the best events across the area.

From history tours to art shows, this weekend has it all. Here's a round-up of the best Darien has to offer this weekend:

 

  • Where: Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave., Westport
  • When: Friday, Sept. 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
  • Why go: Save the Children asked a group of Malawian children to depict love with paint and watercolor. See the touching results at the opening reception, which will feature music and a cash bar.
  • Price: Free
  • Where: Bedford St., Stamford
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Why go: Get an early start on your holiday shopping at this arts and crafts fair, which features works from local artists and boutiques. The Bartlett Arboretum and Stamford Museum and Nature Center will also be on hand with fun kid-friendly activities. 
  • Price: Free

  • Where: Stepping Stones Museum for Children, 303 West Ave., Norwalk
  • When: Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2:00 p.m.
  • Why go: See award-winning puppeteer Liz Joyce retell the story of King Midas.
  • Price: $14 for adults and children; $10 for seniors. Free for members.

  • Where: , 10 N Water St., Norwalk
  • When: Sunday, Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m.
  • Why go: Pull out your favorite eye patch and head down to the Maritime Aquarium for a pirate-themed scavenger hunt, toy boat making, arts and crafts, and even a pirate dunk tank.
  • Price: $12.95 for adults, $11.95 for seniors, and $9.95 for children under 12.
  • Where: , Norwalk 
  • When: Sunday, Sept. 18 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Why go: If you're a local history buff, this is the tour for you. Experts will be on hand to offer a behind-the-scenes bus tour of homes built in Norwalk's early days, including a rare peek inside Norwalk's oldest homes.
  • Price: $55 for non-members and $50 for members.
