Nusbaum & Parrino Co-Author ‘Family Law Jurisdictional Comparisons’

WESTPORT, Conn., Oct. 22, 2013 –  Two family law attorneys became international authors by contributing a chapter to a recently released book titled, “Family Law Jurisdictional Comparisons,” Second Edition 2013, published by European Lawyer/Thomson Reuters.

Edward Nusbaum and Thomas Parrino of Nusbaum & Parrino, PC contributed a 16-page chapter on Connecticut family law to “Family Law Jurisdictional Comparisons,” a volume in the European Lawyer Reference Series, expanding its second edition to cover eight United States jurisdictions and 37 countries.

As financial institutions, major corporations and other businesses become more international, sending U.S. families abroad and importing families from India, Japan, China and Europe, among others, the necessity for international understanding and enforcement of family law has become increasingly important.  This book, available at leading bookstores throughout the world, is the result of the growing importance of international family law and the need amongst family lawyers for a definitive guide to family law in core jurisdictions around the globe.

“This supremely practical book provides basic information on international family law operating in no less than 46 jurisdictions.  The general editor was particularly astute to ensure that all these jurisdictions adopted the same template for their presentations.  In this busy world the provision of basic legal information in an easily digestible form is what we all seek,” said Lord Justice Thorpe, Head of the Office of International Family Justice for England and Wales.

Attorneys Nusbaum and Parrino, both Fellows of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Attorneys, accepted General Editor James Stewart’s invitation to write a summary of Connecticut family law.  Nineteen authors contributed for the U.S. jurisdictions and 56 authors contributed for the 37 countries.  Published in August 2013, the major reference work provides each jurisdiction’s summary of family law according to a single topical organization, offering easy reference for cross-jurisdictional matters.

Four of the leading cases cited in the Connecticut chapter as demonstrative of current concepts and application of Connecticut law were cases tried by Nusbaum & Parrino, PC.

The Nusbaum and Parrino chapter on Connecticut family law covers many of the typical subjects including pre- and post-nuptial agreements, finances/capital, property, child maintenance, surrogacy and adoption, financial relief after foreign divorce proceedings, and civil partnership/same-sex marriage, among others.

“Family Law Jurisdictional Comparisons” has become the must-have publication for all family and divorce lawyers throughout the world who require a comprehensive and practical guide to key components of family law across a multitude of major jurisdictions.  It is also a tremendous resource for family office advisers and those professionals who advise international families.
